“If you always do what you did, you get what you always got.”
Katie has been a part of our journey since the beginning of May 2020. She works in international trade relations for the Swiss Government and loves to keep her plate full of activities. Despite this, she had the growing feeling that there was something missing in her
In the past four months, she went through such amazing and transformational progress already! In the following interview, she talks us through her experience with the journey and shares her ‘magic’ moment. We learn more about her passion in life and even how she found focus through routine and awareness.
What made you want to start the journey?
Probably realising that my life is not fully the way I want it to be. For me, work and exercise is especially important. These two sections are my priorities when it comes to how I am spending my time. But then, looking twenty years down the line... this is not what matters, is it? It is important to have strong bonds with your friends and family and to have fulfilling hobbies. I think the people that are really happy put these elements first and work second.
When corona started, I suddenly had time to think about myself and my needs more. I realised that work is ruling my life. When I heard about Ladina and the online journey, I found the concept so interesting. I started with the home retreat during corona and I loved it so much that I continued with the online journey.
What do you like most about the community? Is it helping you find your vision in life?
I like that it makes me question the things that I do. Most of us are just so wrapped up in unhealthy routines. The online journey brings my awareness to what it is that I really want from life.
I also love the coaching sessions. And of course, I very much enjoy the community sharing! It is so inspiring to follow everyone’s process. It is awesome to share my knowledge and to support each other along the way.
Did you have a “magic moment”?
Definitely “the four areas of life” masterclass session. You look at different areas in your life and ask yourself where your priorities are. What comes next is a reality check: which areas do you spend most of your time in? This was such an eye-opener for me! I understood that if “Love and Connection” is so important to me, but I do not make room for it, there must be something wrong in my life.
What solution helped you change this obstacle?
We have different exercises that made me more aware about what makes me unhappy and what I can do about it. Besides the ‘four areas of life’ masterclass, there is a weekly “mindset routine.” First, you imagine your perfect life in the future. Then you check in with your life right now and think about how you can overcome the obstacles on the way to your future life. This helped me so much with defining my goals and learning how to reach them. Every Monday morning I attend the live session because I like doing it with the group.
What are your goals for the future?
I want to spend more time with friends and family. And I would also like to have a relationship again. I have been single for three years now and I like being alone, but I do miss having a partner.
Can you see your focus and progress already?
Yes, definitely! It became much easier for me to say “no”. I see my friends way more often. If I make plans with friends or family, I stick with them these days, work does not interrupt my private life anymore.
And about the boyfriend thing: I decided to start a climbing course or go dancing more often because these are things I love to do. If you want something to change, you must get out of your comfort zone, don’t you? And follow the things you love. One of my professors at University used to say: “if you always do what you did, you always get what you always got.”
Did anything in your life recently go easier than you expected after the reflecting and work we did together?
Yes! Just recently I was given the job opportunity I always wanted. I worked really hard for it, but decided to stop pushing for it and take things easier. Once I let go and focused on other things, the position came to me by itself. Also, it became easier for me to meditate regularly, because I came up with a good routine. This is something I really struggled with in the past.
Talking about easy, did you have to face challenges during your self-development plan and journey so far?
Yes. I pushed my limits a bit too much. I tried to focus on all the goals placed in the four areas of life at once. The problem I have which I am 100% aware of, is that I want to have everything at once. Now I just try to focus on doing things step by step and take more time for relaxing activities.
If you had to come up with one word for the online journey, what one word describes it best?
I can come up with two: living consciously.
Anything else you would like to add?
I would recommend it to anyone! The mindset routine, the community, sharing your skills and knowledge – this all brings you so much closer to living the life you want. And it brings you so much further than being on a journey on your own.
Thanks, Katie! 😊
